Research Interests: Sandra leads a new program in the area of Tuberculosis (TB) infection and immunology, bridging both the National Reference Centre for Mycobacteriology, and the National Laboratory for HIV Immunology. We utilize cutting edge immunology techniques such as multiparametric flow cytometry and multiplex cytokine analysis to monitor immune responses to TB. Our current research interests include the development of new immune based diagnostics for TB, and understanding the immunological correlates of increased risk for TB infection in patients with diabetes. These projects involve partnering with various clinics within Winnipeg. Additionally we have projects underway in Nairobi focusing on the immunology of TB/HIV coinfection.
